Congratulations to all the entrants from Years 9-13 who have contributed some fantastic pieces of art, including short films, sculptures and installations.  We look forward to finding out whether any DGGS pieces are chosen to be exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery.

This piece represents the contrast between daily life with and without a genetic disorder or disability.  A traditional dining chair acts as the base of the sculpture, whilst wheels are attached to imply the structure of a wheelchair, which for those affected would symbolise the core of their daily lives and for onlookers instantly becomes the main characteristic of a physically impaired person that they see.  The veil of vibrant spray-paint used captures a glimpse of life in the everyday world of some, with the lurid colour making an uncomfortable, childlike contrast with the theme of the piece.  The ordinary chair, which would represent comfort and relaxation in most able bodied people's lives, is adapted with wheels to show that for wheelchair users, their time spent in a chair is far from being a choice - Jenny 12E
