SLAM Poetry Success for DGGS Student
SLAM POETRY SUCCESS FOR ANAHITA 10C
Congratulations to Anahita in 10C who has won a place in the final of the country’s biggest and most prestigious SLAM poetry competition SLAMbassadors UK. Judged by top spoken word artists and poets Joelle Taylor and Lemn Sissay, Anahita is one of six finalists selected from 900 entries to have won a weekend masterclass with Joelle Taylor before performing her winning poem at the 100 Club in London at the end of October.
Following her success at the Bexley Poetry SLAM in March this year, Anahita entered SLAMbassadors UK with another equally powerful, feminist poem on the theme of ‘Identity’. She was one of 30 poets to be short-listed and the very next day was contacted directly by Joelle Taylor, Artistic Director of SLAMbassadors UK, to congratulate her on being chosen as a finalist!
Having had her first taste of a public slam poetry event earlier this year, Anahita has now become the first student from DGGS to win a national slam competition. Her remarkable talent for writing and performing poetry has been recognised by two of the finest spoken word artists in the UK.
